What are community supports?

Community supports help you take part in everyday activities and build skills outside the home. This might include building confidence in social settings, learning how to access the community safely, or trying new experiences.

Support is practical and focused on everyday experiences, helping you gain confidence and feel more connected in your community and daily life.

What community supports look like

Support is hands-on and built around your interests and goals.

You might:

  • Visit local shops, cafes or community spaces
  • Use public transport with support
  • Attend events, activities and classes
  • Build confidence in social situations
  • Try new experiences in your local area

Support can be delivered one-on-one or as part of a group.

Build confidence with others and in your community

Our focus is on helping you feel comfortable and capable to connect with others and engage inclusively in the community.

This includes:

  • Social and communication skills
  • Confidence in public settings
  • Accessing the community safely
  • Planning outings and activities
  • Building independence outside the home

We support you at your pace with the right level of guidance.

Group-based community supports

We offer a range of group supports that make it easier to engage in your community, try new things and enjoy shared experiences with your peers. Here are some of our most popular ones.

Anime Group

Explore your creativity and share your interests in a lively, social group. Activities can include drawing, creating comics or stop motion films, watching anime, Dungeons & Dragons, library visits and other creative projects. Along the way, you’ll build confidence, develop social and communication skills, and express yourself in a supportive group environment.

Social Explorers

Enjoy a relaxed mix of centre-based and community activities while building confidence in social settings. This group includes morning tea, games and time to connect, along with group outings to places like the beach, cafés and local parks. We’ll support you to build confidence, explore your interests and enjoy a mix of familiar routines and new experiences.

Creative Group

Express yourself through sensory activities and projects. In this group, you will have the opportunity to plan what you are going to create, shop for supplies, and paint, draw, sew, write and many more activities to explore your creativity. Our Creative Group is well known for their jewellery creations and their very successful stalls at local markets and events!

Social Night and Saturday Social Day

Two social groups designed to help you build confidence, learn new skills and enjoy time with others. Social Night focuses on centre-based activities like cooking, games, movies and socialising, while Saturday Social Day is all about getting out and about with activities like BBQs, picnics, local events and outings. Across both groups, you’ll build social and communication skills, develop independence through everyday activities like shopping and cooking, and gain confidence taking part in your community.

Shed Group

Get hands-on with creative projects while building confidence and practical skills. This group works on projects like sanding, painting and basic woodwork, including planning what to make and shopping for materials. Along the way, you’ll develop creative skills, express yourself and build confidence through making something you can be proud of.

Castle Café

Build confidence and practical skills in a real café environment. In this group, participants prepare food, serve customers and work as a team in our on-site café. You’ll develop communication and customer service skills, gain experience in a workplace setting and build confidence that can support future employment goals.
